Samira

Samira is a new play by Carmen Nasr, staged at the Dorfman Theatre in London. It follows a Damascus activist during the 2011 protests and the London academics who follow her story.

The production is set in Damascus in 2011, as protests spread through the streets. Its central figure, Samira, is a campaigner at the heart of a movement calling for change, and offers a first-hand account of events as they unfold. The story then shifts to a group of London academics who follow her account from a distance, and the play turns on her sudden disappearance.

The material describes the play as thrilling, funny and provocative, and it is presented as a new piece of theatre by Carmen Nasr, directed by Emily Burns. The cast is listed as May Calamawy, Joshua McGuire and Sirine Saba, with Samira among the performers linked to the listing.

The Dorfman Theatre is the venue hosting the production, and the listing places it among London's theatre and concert venues. The show is suited to audiences interested in new writing that deals with contemporary political events.
