The Rise and Fall of Little Voice

A new production of Jim Cartwright's play The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, staged at the Dorfman Theatre, following a young woman whose private singing draws the attention of a local deal-maker.

Alone in her small bedroom, Little Voice sings along to her late father's records of the great divas, including Judy Garland and Billie Holiday, reproducing their songs with pitch-perfect accuracy. The drama begins when her mother's latest partner, Ray, a local wheeler dealer, overhears her and becomes convinced he has found a valuable talent. The story turns on whether she will be pushed into a public spotlight she never wanted.

This is a major new production of Jim Cartwright's play, directed by Robert Hastie, Deputy Artistic Director of the National Theatre, whose recent work includes Standing at the Sky's Edge. Francesca Mills, known to television audiences for Silent Witness, takes the title role. The show is a piece of theatre built around a single central character and her relationship with the people around her, presented at the Dorfman Theatre in London.
