Sinatra The Musical

A stage musical built around the life and career of Frank Sinatra, the American singer, presented at the Aldwych Theatre in London after a earlier run elsewhere.

Sinatra The Musical follows Frank Sinatra through a turning point in his career, beginning on New Year's Eve 1942, when he is about to perform at New York's Paramount Theatre. The story then turns to the strain between his marriage to Nancy Sinatra and the pull of his fame as the most popular singer in America, and to his relationship with the actress Ava Gardner, which coincided with a fall in record sales and hostile press coverage. The production's focus is his determination, rooted in family life, to recover his standing.

The show transfers to the Aldwych Theatre after a run that the source describes as critically acclaimed. The Aldwych is a London theatre at 49 Aldwych, in the West End area of the city, and the production is presented there for a season on this visit to London.

The piece suits audiences interested in musicals about twentieth-century popular music and in the private life of a major performer. Its subject is a real, named figure, so the production is a dramatisation of his life rather than a concert by the original artist.
