Top Gunchained

A comedy parody of the 1986 film Top Gun, written and performed by Richard Marsh and presented as a stand-up and comedy show at Wilton Music Hall in London. It is an unauthorised parody marking 40 years since the film's cinema release.

The show takes the 1986 film Top Gun as its subject and retells its story in a comic register. The material presents it as an unauthorised parody, so it is not connected to the film's makers. The questions it poses concern the film's main characters: whether Maverick and his best friend Goose can beat Iceman to the trophy, and whether the instructor Charlie can have a drink without being serenaded. The central gag is that a single performer attempts to re-enact the film's signature dogfights alone.

Richard Marsh writes and performs the piece, and the listing presents it as a laugh-out-loud, feel-good comedy. The source also describes the performer's background, including a London poetry slam title and a Fringe First award, but these claims are offered with a note that one of them is untrue, so they should be read as part of the joke rather than as verified biography. The show is billed as suitable for those who know the film well and for newcomers alike.

Wilton Music Hall, the venue, hosts concerts and shows in London. Visitors should expect a comedy performance in which one performer carries the whole piece and the film's plot is treated with affectionate mockery.
