Béla Fleck: My Bluegrass Heart

Béla Fleck: My Bluegrass Heart is a jazz concert by the banjo player Béla Fleck, presented at Cahn Auditorium in Evanston. The title points to the bluegrass roots that run through the banjo playing.

Béla Fleck is an American banjo player whose work crosses bluegrass, jazz and other styles. Fleck co-founded Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, a band formed in the late 1980s that combined the banjo with harmonica, bass and drums, and has also recorded solo and in collaboration with many musicians across genres. The banjo is the instrument at the center of the act, and the program's title places the bluegrass tradition at the heart of the evening.

Cahn Auditorium hosts concerts and shows in Evanston, and this program brings a jazz-oriented banjo performance to that stage. The evening suits listeners interested in how the five-string banjo moves between bluegrass and jazz, and in an artist who has built a career on expanding what the instrument can do.
