Piano Spheres: Vicki Ray

A piano evening by Vicki Ray, built around the color blue and drawing on books by Maggie Nelson and William Gass, presented at 2220 Arts + Archives in Los Angeles.

Pianist Vicki Ray takes the color blue as the subject of this program, titled Piano Spheres. The starting point is a pair of books, one by Maggie Nelson and one by William Gass, which set the theme for the evening's choice of works.

The repertoire includes Blue Diamonds by Paul Dresher and Série Bleue by Pierre Jodlowski. The program also features world premieres by Alex Wand and by the team of Hunter Ochs and Severin Behnen, so the evening pairs established contemporary pieces with newly written ones.

2220 Arts + Archives is a concert and performance venue on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles. The evening suits listeners who follow contemporary piano music and want to hear recent commissions alongside works by Dresher and Jodlowski.
