Kate Bollinger

Kate Bollinger, a pop, rock and indie act, performs the EP Shop Girl and other songs at 2220 Arts + Archives in Los Angeles, in a show presented by KCRW.

Kate Bollinger's latest EP, Shop Girl, was produced by Jonathan Rado, and the record also features Sam France, Tim Bernardes and Alex Heaney as musicians. The influences named for the project are Lynsey De Paul, Kate Bush, and Ribbons of War, the rock opera by The Extraordinaires, which Bollinger has admired since childhood.

The five songs on the EP are framed as an imagined musical about a small boutique, its owner, and three young women who work there. In "Dear Bobby," a shop girl named Bobby pleads with the boy she loves, who shares the name. Other threads follow the band Texaco and a public split between two bandmates, Ian Machine and Sandra Beach. The title track gives the routine tasks of shop work a surreal energy, and "Dreams Don't Come True" opens the record.

The chord arrangements recall late-1960s songwriting, reworked from Liverpool and London through Charlottesville, Virginia and Los Angeles, California. The show is presented by KCRW and takes place at 2220 Arts + Archives, a concert and performance venue on Beverly Boulevard.
