Overview
School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play is a comedy that turns the familiar story of a high school clique into a sharp look at ambition, loyalty and competition among young women. The title points to the classic American teen comedy, and the show adapts that model to a boarding school setting, with its own social hierarchies and pressures.
As a comedy staged in a theater, the show relies on the rhythm of its dialogue, the timing of its cast and the interplay between characters on stage. The production is presented in the auditorium of the Samuel J Friedman Theatre, a Broadway house that hosts a range of plays and musicals as well as other shows in New York.
The piece will appeal to audiences who enjoy character-driven comedy and stories about friendship and rivalry, and to anyone curious about how a familiar genre travels to a new setting.
