Black Flute Brigade

Aaron Shaw at 2220 Arts + Archives

Black Flute Brigade celebrates the release of their debut LP on Leaving Records, much of it recorded live at 2220 Arts earlier this year!

Each flautist will perform a solo set, followed by the full group. Unmissable!

Black Flute Brigade (BFB) is a Los Angeles-based flute collective redefining what a modern flute ensemble can look and sound like.

Composed of NOAMZ, B~Free, Aaron Shaw, and Jon Ta Douglas, the group blends contemporary R&B, soul, hip-hop, jazz, and popular music through original arrangements and reimagined interpretations. United by a shared desire for greater representation within the flute community, BFB creates dynamic performances that celebrate the versatility of the instrument while centering Black artistry, collaboration, and creative expression. More than a flute ensemble, Black Flute Brigade is a movement—reclaiming space, redefining expectations, and creating the representation they once searched for.
