Dan Merlo Quartet BASEMENT SYMPHONY

A jazz concert by the Dan Merlo Quartet, presented as BASEMENT SYMPHONY at The Sanctuary of the Epiphany Center for the Arts in Chicago.

BASEMENT SYMPHONY is a jazz concert by the Dan Merlo Quartet, and the title gives the evening its name. Jazz is the genre throughout, and the quartet is the act on the bill, so the program centers on a single small group rather than a larger ensemble. Small jazz groups of this kind share melodic and rhythmic lines among their players, which keeps the focus on how the musicians interact.

The concert takes place at The Sanctuary of the Epiphany Center for the Arts, a venue that hosts concerts and shows in Chicago. It suits listeners who want a jazz performance in a Chicago arts venue that presents live music and stage productions.

For those new to jazz, a single quartet offers a direct way to hear the genre's core sound, with the group's playing shaped by the four musicians on stage.
