Dark Star Orchestra

Dark Star Orchestra is a tribute act devoted to the music of the Grateful Dead, presented at The Anthem in Washington, D.C., a venue for concerts and shows.

Dark Star Orchestra performs the music of the Grateful Dead as a tribute act, not as the original band. Its concerts are built around recreating complete shows from specific Grateful Dead performances, with the extended improvisational jams and long song suites that defined the Dead's live sound. The group takes its name from "Dark Star," one of the Dead's best-known pieces and a frequent vehicle for their improvisation.

The program suits listeners who follow the Grateful Dead's catalog and the psychedelic rock tradition the band grew out of, as well as newcomers curious about how the Dead's live music worked. The Anthem is a Washington venue hosting concerts and shows, so this stop brings the project to the city on this visit to Washington, D.C.
