Eric Benet is an American R&B singer and songwriter whose music draws on soul, funk, gospel and reggae. The self-titled debut album, released in 1996, introduced the project to listeners, and the duet "Spend My Life with You," recorded with Tamia, is among the best-known songs in the catalog. The work is built around melodic, vocal-led R&B rooted in classic soul.

The Birchmere hosts concerts and shows in Alexandria, and this evening suits listeners who follow contemporary R&B and soul singer-songwriters. Fans of soul and funk will recognize the traditions at the core of the music, while the gospel and reggae elements add range to the style.
