Eva Cassidy Tribute Concert

A tribute concert dedicated to the music of the American singer Eva Cassidy, presented at the Birchmere in Alexandria. The evening honors her catalog and is not a performance by Eva Cassidy.

Eva Cassidy (1963–1996) was an American singer whose recordings draw on jazz, folk, blues and pop standards. She performed mainly in the Washington, D.C. area during her lifetime and died in 1996 of melanoma. Her 1998 posthumous album Songbird brought her wider attention, and her version of "Over the Rainbow" is among the recordings most often associated with her name.

This event is a tribute, so the songs are presented in homage to Cassidy rather than sung by the original artist. Listeners who know her voice and her interpretations of standards will find the evening centered on her music, approached through new performances.

The Birchmere hosts concerts and shows in Alexandria, Virginia. The evening suits listeners who follow Cassidy's catalog and the jazz and roots repertoire she recorded, as well as anyone curious about her music who has not yet heard her albums.
