Hamilton

A Broadway musical about Alexander Hamilton, staged at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York, with a book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Hamilton is a musical with a book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, drawn from Ron Chernow's 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton. It follows the life of the Founding Father from his youth in the Caribbean to his role in the early American republic, and its score mixes hip-hop, R&B and pop styles with traditional musical theater writing. The show was first staged Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in 2015 before moving to Broadway that same year.

The production won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Musical, both in 2016. Its cast recording was released in 2015, and its songs follow the characters'rivalries, friendships and political debates across the story.

The Richard Rodgers Theatre is a Broadway house in midtown Manhattan. The show suits audiences interested in American history who want that history told largely through song, with the founding era's politics treated as personal conflict.
