Overview
La Mar de Bien is a flamenco jazz collective working in the jazz genre. Its music brings together the rhythmic and vocal traditions of flamenco with the harmony and improvisation of jazz, so the ensemble's sound draws on two separate musical lineages. Jazz supplies the improvisational framework, while flamenco contributes the compás, the cyclical rhythmic structures at the heart of the form.
The concert takes place at Epiphany Center for the Arts - The Sanctuary, a Chicago venue that hosts concerts and shows. The evening suits listeners interested in jazz rooted in flamenco, and anyone curious about how Spanish and American improvisational practices meet within a single group.
