Masta - The Edge of Soul

A concert by Masta - The Edge of Soul, an act working across R&B, soul, funk, gospel and reggae, at Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood.

Masta - The Edge of Soul performs under the name Masta and draws on R&B, soul, funk, gospel and reggae. The bill also includes Blues & Jazz Jam, so the evening combines two distinct strands of American roots-based music on one program.

The genre mix points to a sound built on soul vocals and groove-driven funk, with gospel phrasing and reggae rhythms adding contrast. Listeners who follow any of these styles will find a common thread between them, since soul, gospel and funk share much of their rhythmic and harmonic vocabulary, while reggae brings a looser, offbeat pulse.

Catalina Jazz Club hosts concerts and shows in Hollywood, so the night suits audiences interested in live R&B and soul performed in a club setting, as well as those drawn to blues and jazz sessions.
