Surprise Chef

Surprise Chef, a group from Coburg playing moody instrumental jazz-funk, is on the bill of a Los Angeles concert with Ben Hackett and DJ Papichampu at Sid The Cat Auditorium.

Surprise Chef is a group from Coburg playing instrumental jazz-funk with moody shades and a do-it-yourself approach. Within the College Of Knowledge Records roster, the group is the central act.

Their sound reflects a meticulous education in 1970s soul, with the composers and producers David Axelrod and Isaac Hayes among the reference points. The catalogues of Daptone and Truth & Soul are also cited as sources of inspiration.

The evening features Ben Hackett, with DJ Papichampu also taking part, at Sid The Cat Auditorium, a Los Angeles venue for concerts and shows. For anyone interested in soul-influenced instrumental music, the concert offers a single evening with the group.
