The Outsiders

The Outsiders is a musical staged at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York, adapted from S.E. Hinton's 1967 coming-of-age novel about teenage rivalries in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

S.E. Hinton published The Outsiders in 1967, when she was a teenager herself, and the novel follows Ponyboy Curtis, a boy from the Greasers, a group of working-class youths who clash with the wealthier Socs. Its themes of class, loyalty and grief have made it a staple of American schoolrooms, and the story has previously reached audiences through Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 film adaptation.

The stage version is a musical, so its storytelling is carried by songs and dialogue together, following the novel's central friendships and the violence that pushes its characters toward the choices they make.

The Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre is a Broadway house in Midtown Manhattan, and the production suits theatergoers interested in new musicals drawn from American literature and in stories about adolescence.
