The Seldom Scene

A concert by The Seldom Scene, a band from the Washington, D.C. area with roots in bluegrass, at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia.

The Seldom Scene formed in 1971 at the Red Fox Inn in Bethesda, Maryland, and grew out of the Washington, D.C. bluegrass scene. John Duffey, who sang and played mandolin, and Mike Auldridge, whose dobro playing shaped the group's sound, were among its founding members. Its music is bluegrass at heart, and this concert places it under blues, country and folk.

The Birchmere, in Alexandria, Virginia, hosts concerts and shows, and this performance takes place there. The venue's role is that of a regional stage for touring and local acts, so the evening fits into its usual schedule of live music.

The concert suits listeners who follow bluegrass, country and folk, and anyone interested in a band that has been active since 1971 and has kept its name through many changes in personnel.
