Così fan tutte - Royal Ballet and Opera

Così fan tutte is Mozart's comic opera, presented in London at the Royal Opera House under the title Così fan tutte - Royal Ballet and Opera. It is a staged opera, not a concert or a dance programme.

Così fan tutte is an opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, sung in Italian. Its plot follows two young couples whose fidelity is tested by a wager set up by the cynical Don Alfonso. The two officers pretend to leave for war, then return in disguise and court each other's partner, so the comedy rests on disguise, shifting loyalties and sudden reversals.

Mozart's score moves between ensemble numbers, duets and solo arias, and much of the humour comes from the musical interplay between the four lovers and Don Alfonso. The Royal Opera House, which hosts a range of performances in London, is the venue for this production, and the title places it within the Royal Ballet and Opera.

The piece suits audiences interested in Mozart's operas and in comic plots built on mistaken identity. Those new to opera may find the story direct to follow, while longer-standing admirers can focus on the ensemble writing and the way the characters'feelings change across the evening.
