Overview
Giacomo Puccini's triptych of three one-act operas, presented by the Royal Opera House in London. The evening pairs a tragedy, a convent drama and a comedy under one title.
Il Trittico is an opera by Giacomo Puccini made up of three one-act works performed together as a single evening. Il tabarro is a dark drama set on a barge on the Seine, Suor Angelica is a tragedy set in a convent, and Gianni Schicchi is a comedy set in Florence. Each part has its own setting, characters and tone, so the evening moves from the tragic to the comic.
The Royal Opera House, which hosts concerts and shows, stages the production in London. Because the three parts are self-contained, the work suits opera-goers who already know Puccini's music as well as newcomers looking for a clear introduction to the form.
