Overview
An opera by Leoš Janáček, staged by the Royal Ballet and Opera at the Royal Opera House in London and drawn from Alexander Ostrovsky's play The Storm.
Káťa Kabanová is an opera by Leoš Janáček, adapted from Ostrovsky's play The Storm. Set in a provincial Russian town, it follows Káťa, whose marriage to the weak-willed Tichon places her under the strict authority of her mother-in-law, Kabanicha. Her feelings for Boris develop into a secret affair, and that tension drives the drama.
This production is presented by the Royal Ballet and Opera as a staged opera at the Royal Opera House, the company's home in Covent Garden. The story is a tragic domestic drama, and the work is of interest to anyone exploring twentieth-century opera.
The Royal Opera House hosts opera, ballet and concerts in London, and this title gives a direct route into the company's operatic repertoire.
