The Animals Come to the Table - Globe

A new play by Timberlake Wertenbaker, staged at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, in which a negotiator and an interpreter meet a group of animals and voices from the natural world. It is presented as a Globe theatre production.

The Animals Come to the Table is a world premiere by Timberlake Wertenbaker, described in the listing as one of the UK's leading playwrights. The story begins with a secret emergency meeting called for a negotiator and an interpreter, who find a chicken, a rat and a snow leopard waiting for them, together with a chorus of voices from the natural world. Their demand is an end to exploitation and ecological destruction.

The material presents the play as funny, angry and unsettling, and as an imagined moment in which the earth answers back. It sets politics and wit alongside philosophy, and is described as an experiment in seeing the world from another's point of view. The production is staged at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, the indoor candlelit theatre within the Globe complex.

The listing offers several performances with access options, including BSL-interpreted, relaxed, captioned and audio-described sessions, so the audience can choose a session that suits their needs.
