Nevermore

Nevermore – The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe is a musical play by Catalyst Theatre, staged at the Charing Cross Theatre in London. It is a musical drawn from the final voyage of the American writer Edgar Allan Poe.

Catalyst Theatre's musical play has already been performed across Canada and Off-Broadway in New York before this London run. Its subject is the American writer Edgar Allan Poe, whose life and death the production approaches through memory and imagination rather than a straightforward chronicle.

The story opens on a rainy night in Richmond, Virginia, where Poe boards a steamship headed for New York. The vessel never reaches its port. Instead, the voyage carries Poe into his recollections and fantasies, and towards the discovery that the darkest of all the twisted tales he wrote was the story of his own life. Reviewers have described the work as haunting and heart-rending.

The Charing Cross Theatre occupies The Arches on Villiers Street, in central London. The production will be presented there for a limited run, and it is aimed at anyone interested in Poe's writing and in musical theatre built around a nineteenth-century literary figure.
