A Cuban Christmas: A Buena Vista Social Club Christmas Tribute

A Cuban Christmas is a jazz program of holiday music reinterpreted in the spirit of the Buena Vista Social Club, presented at Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood. Afro-Cuban Nights are the performers, and the evening pays tribute to this repertoire.

This is a tribute concert. The performers are Afro-Cuban Nights, and the program honors the music of the Buena Vista Social Club and of Compay Segundo rather than featuring the original artists on stage. The Buena Vista Social Club was a project gathering veteran Cuban musicians, recorded in Havana and released in 1997 with Ry Cooder as producer. Compay Segundo, a Cuban son musician and songwriter, wrote "Chan Chan," one of the best-known songs from that album.

The show brings Afro-Cuban rhythms and jazz harmony to a Christmas repertoire, a combination that makes the evening a fit for listeners who follow Cuban son and Afro-Cuban jazz. It is a jazz program, presented in a holiday framework.

Catalina Jazz Club is a venue in Hollywood that hosts concerts and shows. The evening is suited to anyone interested in the Buena Vista Social Club's sound and in seasonal music played in a Cuban style.
