Vape! The Grease Parody

A comic musical parody of Grease, presented at the Apollo Theater in Chicago. It reworks the story and style of a well-known 1950s-set musical for an evening of theater built on humor.

Vape! The Grease Parody takes its premise from Grease, the musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, first staged in 1971. The original follows students at a 1950s American high school through a romance, a school rivalry and a run of songs that became central to its appeal. This parody uses that source as its starting point and reshapes it into a comedy.

The title signals a satirical approach, so the evening suits audiences who already know Grease and enjoy seeing its characters and conventions turned into comic material. Viewers new to the original can still follow the premise, since the parody is built on the familiar setting rather than on prior knowledge of the plot.

The Apollo Theater hosts concerts and shows in Chicago, and this production is staged there. It is a fitting choice for anyone looking for a musical theater night in the city that leans toward parody and comedy rather than a straight revival.
