Overview
A staged musical built around the songs of Jimmy Buffett, presented by Music Theater Works at the North Theatre in Skokie. It is a theater production in the musical genre.
Escape to Margaritaville draws on the catalog of Jimmy Buffett, the singer-songwriter whose laid-back island sound made "Margaritaville" one of his best-known songs. The show is a musical that uses Buffett's songs as its score, so the audience hears the familiar tunes performed within a storyline rather than in a concert setting. Buffett's music blends folk, country and calypso-influenced rhythms, and the production keeps that tropical, storytelling character.
Music Theater Works is presenting the production at the North Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, a venue in Skokie that hosts concerts and shows. The title and genre point to a night suited to fans of Buffett's songs and to theatergoers who enjoy musicals with a playful, beach-town tone. Those looking for a traditional concert of Buffett's recordings should note that this is a theatrical staging of his music, with actors performing the songs as part of the story.
