Cesar Rosas & The Chi-Town Playboys

A concert by Cesar Rosas with The Chi-Town Playboys, presented at Space in Evanston. The bill places a founding member of Los Lobos alongside a band of its own.

Cesar Rosas is a founding member of Los Lobos, the band formed in East Los Angeles in 1973 with David Hidalgo and Louie Pérez. Rosas sings and plays guitar in Los Lobos, whose best-known recording is its 1987 version of "La Bamba," the Ritchie Valens song, and whose 1992 album Kiko is among its well-known studio records. The group's music draws on Mexican folk, Tex-Mex, rock and roots traditions.

This evening pairs Rosas with The Chi-Town Playboys, the band named alongside Rosas in the billing. The program falls under pop, rock and indie, so it reaches listeners who follow the roots-rock lineage that runs from Los Lobos to the current material.

Space is a venue in Evanston that hosts concerts and shows. For audiences who know the Los Lobos catalog, the night offers a direct way to hear one of its founding voices in a smaller, local setting.
