John Prine Tribute with Illegal Smiles

A tribute evening devoted to the songs of John Prine, performed by Illegal Smiles at Space in Evanston. The show is a tribute, not a performance by Prine.

John Prine was a singer-songwriter from the Chicago area whose work moved between folk, country and blues storytelling. He began recording in the early 1970s, and his self-titled debut album appeared in 1971. His best-known songs include "Angel from Montgomery," "Sam Stone," "Paradise" and "Hello in There," and many artists have recorded his catalog over the decades.

This evening is billed as a John Prine tribute with Illegal Smiles, and its music is in the blues, country and folk tradition. The program centers on Prine's songwriting, with the performers interpreting his material rather than appearing as the original artist.

Space hosts concerts and shows in Evanston. The evening suits listeners who follow folk, country and blues songwriting and want to hear the catalog of one of its most recognized writers performed live.
