Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives

Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives is a country, blues and folk act led by Marty Stuart, a mandolin player and bandleader with long roots in bluegrass and Nashville country. The show takes place at the Birchmere in Alexandria.

Marty Stuart began as a mandolin player in Lester Flatt's Nashville Grass in the 1970s and later joined Johnny Cash's band in the 1980s, working with Cash on the road and in the studio. Those years shaped a career that moves between bluegrass and traditional country. His Fabulous Superlatives is the band name under which Marty Stuart performs with a group of musicians.

The concert presents the band's country, blues and folk repertoire, drawing on the Nashville and bluegrass traditions that run through Marty Stuart's work as a sideman and bandleader. The material connects the bluegrass lineage of Lester Flatt's band with the later country sound associated with Johnny Cash's circle.

The Birchmere is a concert and show venue in Alexandria. The evening suits listeners who follow country, blues and folk music and want a direct link to the Nashville tradition.
