Sister Nancy & the Steady Rock Band

A San Francisco concert by Sister Nancy & the Steady Rock Band, the project of the Jamaican singer and deejay Sister Nancy, with reggae and R&B, soul, funk and gospel in its music. Reggae Angels are also named on the bill.

Sister Nancy is a Jamaican singer and deejay whose 1982 single "Bam Bam" became a reference point in dancehall. The project Sister Nancy & the Steady Rock Band brings that reggae foundation together with R&B, soul, funk and gospel. Reggae Angels are also named on the bill.

The Independent is a venue in San Francisco that hosts concerts and shows. The evening suits listeners who want to hear Sister Nancy's reggae roots set alongside a wider range of Black popular music.

Listeners who know Sister Nancy from dancehall will hear the reggae base of the music, while those drawn to soul, funk and gospel will find the other half of the program's style. The mix of genres makes this concert a useful choice for anyone who follows rhythm-driven music across several traditions.
