London City Ballet: Firebird – A Double Bill

A double bill from London City Ballet at Sadler's Wells Theatre, pairing a new version of John Neumeier's Ghost Light with a revival of Glen Tetley's Firebird. The programme presents two works that are being shown in the UK for the first time.

The evening opens with Ghost Light, a new version by John Neumeier of a piece he made in 2020, first performed outside the Hamburg Ballet for this production. The work turns to the memory of performers who once worked on the stage, with a light picking out their presence after the theatre has gone dark. Alina Cojocaru appears as Guest Artist in Ghost Light at all performances.

The second work is a revival of Firebird by Glen Tetley, presented in a centenary year of the choreographer's birth. Originally made for the Royal Danish Ballet, it offers a gothic retelling in which a young woman breaks away from a controlling family, embracing her differences and freeing those around her. The designs are by John MacFarlane, the ballet's original designer, who has revisited them for this revival.

London City Ballet, a company that was formerly a resident company at Sadler's Wells, is in its third season. A BSL-interpreted performance and a post-show talk are also scheduled for this run.
