Singin’ in the Rain

A stage musical adaptation of the 1952 Hollywood film, staged at Sadler's Wells Theatre in London, following a silent-era screen couple as the arrival of sound transforms the film industry.

Singin'in the Rain is a stage musical based on the story of a Hollywood golden couple, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont, whose careers are thrown into disarray when silent pictures give way to sound. An aspiring actress is brought in to rescue a production, and the upheaval reshapes the lives of the two leads. The show draws on the romance and comedy of the well-known film it adapts.

The score is taken from the film's MGM repertoire, and the material singles out Good Morning, Make 'em Laugh and the title song as numbers included in the production. The programme therefore centres on song and dance drawn from that catalogue, with the story of the transition to talkies carried through the scenes between the musical numbers.

The production is presented under the Singin'in the Rain title alongside Beautiful, which is named as a co-billed artist for this listing. Sadler's Wells Theatre is a London venue that hosts concerts and shows, and the staging suits audiences interested in classic film musicals.
