Overview

A jazz program in Chicago celebrating the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane and George Martin, presented by the project Centennial V: Origin of Animal at The CheckOut.

Centennial V: Origin of Animal is a jazz project whose program honors three figures: Miles Davis, John Coltrane and George Martin. This is a tribute, so the music of these artists is performed by the project and not by the artists themselves.

Miles Davis, the American trumpeter, recorded Kind of Blue (1959), a landmark of modal jazz, and later Bitches Brew (1970), an early statement of jazz fusion that brought electric instruments into the genre. John Coltrane, the saxophonist, is associated with A Love Supreme (1965) and Giant Steps (1960). George Martin, the British record producer known as the Fifth Beatle, shaped the Beatles'recordings, including Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967).

The CheckOut is a Chicago venue that hosts concerts and shows. The program suits listeners who follow modern jazz from the 1950s and 1960s, as well as those interested in the studio work behind the Beatles.
