Handmade Bao Buns: San Diego

A cooking workshop in Vista where participants make yeast dough into mini bao buns, steam them and fill them with glazed pork and pickled vegetables. It is open to beginners.

This class covers the full process of making bao, the soft steamed buns, from shaping the yeast dough to the final steaming. Participants also practice dough handling and knife skills. Pork is cooked in a sticky glaze built on ginger, garlic, soy sauce, hoisin, sesame oil and honey, then each bun is finished with pickled vegetables and a sriracha and lime mayonnaise.

No prior cooking experience is needed. All equipment and ingredients are provided, so attendees do not need to bring anything for the cooking itself. Drinks are welcome to bring along.

The workshop takes place at The Workshop at Sae Kitchen in Vista. It suits beginners and anyone who wants to learn a practical dough skill and a simple way to prepare filled buns at home.
