Great Lake Swimmers w. Colleen Brown

An evening of indie rock and folk-leaning songwriting, with Great Lake Swimmers and Colleen Brown on the same bill at Space in Evanston, a short trip north of Chicago.

Great Lake Swimmers is an indie band from Toronto, Ontario, formed in the early 2000s and built around the songwriting of Tony Dekker. Its self-titled debut album came out in 2003, and later records such as Ongiara (2008) and New Wild Everywhere (2011) extended the group's blend of acoustic-leaning arrangements and melodic, open-ended songs. The band's catalog sits within the North American folk and alternative tradition.

The bill pairs Great Lake Swimmers with Colleen Brown, so the evening offers two songwriting acts in one program. Listeners who follow indie folk and rock will find a clear reference point in the headliner's catalog.

Space hosts concerts and shows in Evanston, and this date places a touring indie act in a suburban venue within easy reach of Chicago. The event suits anyone interested in hearing this material performed live, whether they know the band's records or are discovering them for the first time.
