Overview

A stage musical adapted from Roald Dahl's 1964 novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is staged at the London Coliseum in the West End.

The musical draws on Roald Dahl's children's novel, which follows Charlie Bucket, a boy from a poor family, as he wins a golden ticket to tour the factory of the confectioner Willy Wonka. The story's inventive sweets and its contrast between the children who visit the factory have made it a long-standing favourite with younger readers and their families.

Music and lyrics for the stage version are by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, with a book by David Greig, and the show is built around the novel's characters, from Charlie's family to the four other golden-ticket winners. The London Coliseum, on St Martin's Lane, is a West End theatre that was historically the home of English National Opera and now hosts concerts and shows, including musicals. The plot and characters are aimed at children, which makes the production a natural choice for a family outing.
