Night 1 of 2: THE ZIMMERMEN Perform The Last Waltz

A tribute concert by The Zimmermen performing The Last Waltz, the 1976 farewell show by The Band, at Fitzgeralds Nightclub in Berwyn. The program follows the repertoire of the concert filmed by Martin Scorsese.

The Zimmermen are a separate act performing the program of The Last Waltz, the farewell concert The Band gave in 1976. The original show was filmed by Martin Scorsese, and the documentary was released in 1978. This evening is a tribute to that concert, not a performance by The Band.

The Band formed in the 1960s as the backing group for Ronnie Hawkins before working with Bob Dylan, and went on to make their own records. Their debut album, Music from Big Pink, came out in 1968 and includes "The Weight," the group's best-known song. Their catalog draws on rock, country, gospel and rhythm and blues, and the farewell concert was built around that range.

Fitzgeralds Nightclub in Berwyn hosts concerts and shows. The evening suits listeners who know The Band's catalog and the Scorsese film, and those interested in film concerts, a format that pairs live music with a recreation of a famous performance.
