The Doctor Wu Band Plays Steely Dan

A tribute evening in which The Doctor Wu Band performs the songs of Steely Dan, the rock group formed in Los Angeles by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, at The Mint in Los Angeles.

Steely Dan formed in Los Angeles in 1972 around Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. Their jazz-inflected rock, dense harmonies and carefully built studio arrangements shaped albums such as Can't Buy a Thrill (1972), Aja (1977) and Gaucho (1980). Songs like "Reelin'in the Years," "Do It Again," "Peg" and "Hey Nineteen" remain central to their catalog.

This evening is a tribute: The Doctor Wu Band plays Steely Dan's repertoire, and the performers are not the original group. The program centers on that catalog, so listeners who know the records will recognize the songs and their arrangements.

The Mint hosts concerts and shows in Los Angeles. The night suits anyone who wants to hear Steely Dan's songs performed live by another band in the city where the group began.
