Tinashe — The Show Must Go On

Tinashe — The Show Must Go On is a concert at the Fox Theater in Oakland by the American singer, dancer and actress, whose music draws on new jack swing and hip-hop.

Tinashe is an American singer, dancer and actress whose music draws on new jack swing and hip-hop. The first album, Aquarius, was released in 2014. The genres associated with this production are R&B, soul, funk, gospel and reggae, which places the show across several overlapping traditions of American and Jamaican popular music.

New jack swing, which emerged in the late 1980s by joining R&B vocals with hip-hop rhythms and drum machine production, is the most direct reference point for the artist's sound. Dancing is part of Tinashe's stated career alongside singing and acting, so the performance draws on more than vocals alone.

The Fox Theater in Oakland hosts concerts and shows, and this production, The Show Must Go On, is staged there. Listeners familiar with new jack swing and hip-hop-influenced R&B can trace the roots of the material directly, while those new to the artist can start with Aquarius.
